SEO 2017 Hacks
The results are in from SEMrush Ranking Factors study for 2017. They conducted SEO research on a staggering 600,000 keywords with 1.5 million users to determine the most important factors for SEO in 2017.
1. Web Traffic Matters Most
If it seems like a no-brainer, that’s because it is. The number of page visits to your website is the strongest factor for your page-rank. But it’s not just about the number of visitors; it’s also about how long they stay on your website, how many pages they visit and thus your Bounce Rate. Google defines this as:
A bounce is a single-page session on your site. In Analytics, a bounce is calculated specifically as a session that triggers only a single request to the Analytics server, such as when a user opens a single page on your site and then exits without triggering any other requests to the Analytics server during that session.
Google states that all user behaviour signals are too noisy, yet a high bounce rate could indicate that the page content is irrelevant, which is bad for both users and search engine bots.
Tips for You:
What does this all mean? It means that if you can focus on producing relevant content that is shared around on Social Media, then you are increasing your traffic and thus your page ranking!
- Start blogging relevant content and get your friends to share these around.
- Creating a new offer/service? Instead of just posting about it on Facebook or using Google AdWords to promote it, try setting up a Sales Funnel on your website to increase your page views. Use Social Media to share the starting point of your funnel.
2. Backlinks Matter Too
For high volume keywords, the median value was 10,000 unique referring domains for high performing websites. None of us could build that volume in a hurry, which means those websites are untouchable! However, it’s very achievable for SEO experts to gain excellent results on all other keywords with even modest link building.
Tips for You:
Are you a small business struggling to get results with your website? Well, backlinks matter. To increase your backlinks, a great starting point is to get listed on as many business directories as possible. Links to your website are counted as backlinks, plus your brand is on all relevant directories that people use to find local businesses!
3. Content & Security
The SEO study showed that the security of a website is a ranking factor as well. It’s quite simple to get an SSL Certificate for your website, so why not get one and give your SEO ranking a boost?
Content as well was shown to be a factor – the consistently top ranking websites showed that they would have on average 750 words per page, where lower ranking websites averaged closer to 500 words. That’s a surprising result, which means it pays to have more text on your pages!
